Ai Weiwei x Public Art Fund

For Office Use Only designed the graphic identity, signage, interactive map, and exhibition catalog for Ai Weiwei’s “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors,” a New York City-wide exhibition organized by the Public Art Fund. Comprised of over 300 locations, the exhibition responds to the global migration crisis and the profound social and political impulse to divide people from each other. FOUO worked closely with Ai Weiwei’s studio and PAF to develop a graphic system to boldly reflect and frame the themes of the exhibition.
Our design of the “Good Fences…” exhibition catalog serves as perhaps the only way to experience the vast breadth of the exhibition as a whole. Designed a year after the exhibition and extending the graphic identity we established, the 350-page book includes thousands of images, testimonials from notable artists and public figures, as well as excerpts from hundreds of public Instagram posts. The book has won awards from the Art Directors Club and Communication Arts, as well as the Grand Prix Award at DNA Paris.
